Department Association Inauguration

The Association of the Department of English named ‘Alma Fiesta’ was inaugurated on 4th November 2019. The core committee, comprising of both students and teachers was formed earlier. In the committee meeting it was decided to invite Dr. Umar O Thasneeem, the Assistant Professor of English, Dept of English, University of Calicut, to inaugurate the association. One day National Seminar on E.L.T

On 6th January 2020, the Department of English, Sullamussalam Arabic College, Areekode, in collaboration with the Department of English, University of Calicut, conducted one day National Seminar on E.L.T. The seminar was titled, Experimental Pedagogy: Exploring the untold tales from English Classrooms. The Seminar rendered a unique experience to the students and faculties. An Inter-departmental Literary Quiz

In commemoration of Toni Morrison, the Nobel Laureate and the popular American writer and essayist who explored Black identity through her works, SSAC department of English conducted quiz competition on 5ht August 2019. The quiz was based on her two major works, The Bluest Eye, her debut novel and Tar Baby, her much celebrated novel. Mr. Maqsood P, Assistant Professor, decorated the role of quiz master. The challenging quiz was won by the first year little buds of English department.
Versification competition

In connection with the historical launching of Chandrayan 2, English department of SSAC invited creative verses and its recitation from the students through the social networking site Whats app. The verses should be based on the themes related to the moon. Two days are provided for the students to submit their entries. The winners are selected by the core committee of the programme on 24th July 2019. Shimna and Nasreen Fathima from second year English became the best recite and the best poet respectively. The winners were honoured with prizes.
Curtainfall (In Memory of Kirish Karnad, the voice of the voiceless)

The English department of Sullamussalam Arabic College commemorated the demise of the great Indian writer Girish Karnad, the voice of the voicelss, on the 1st July 2019. This programme became the curtain riser departmental programme of the year. Assistant Professor Mr. Maqsood P delivered the welcome speech. The Programme was inaugurated by the principal of college Dr. C H Abdul Gafoor followed by the paper presentations of department students. The presentation was on Karnad’s much celebrated works ‘Nagamandala’, ‘Hayavadana’ and ‘Thuqhlaq’ by Amir Suh
Basheer-Day Celebration

Basheer-Day Celebration The verbal picturing of Baypore Sultan Department of English provided a wall painting platform to the students of SSAC in remembrance of Vaikom Muhammed Basheer, fondly called the Beypore Sultan, the renowned Malayalam literary figure in 5th July 2019. The entire students of various departments participated in the programme and made it a grand success. They painted Basheer’s images, thought providing cartoons, his characters of various works and also inscribed the major quotes of Beypore Sultan, which are celebrated widely. The programme continues till 3:30 PM. It

Children Book Reading Competition

The Literary Club under the Department of English in association with IQAC organized a Children's Book Reading Competition as part of observing National Reading Day. Principal Mr. Arif Zainudheen inaugurated the program. Dr. Nishad K. P, Head, Dept of Economics, Dr. Ahmed Musfar, and Beevi Thabassum, Assistant Professor, Dept of Arabic were the judges for the event.
